The workwear update: A denim dress

Featured: Veronica Beard, Nanushka

Denim has a mostly utilitarian image; it’s sturdy, practical, and the stuff of workwear – not the boardroom kind, but rather tough, manual, get-your-hands-dirty work. Pretty, though? As it turns out, denim can do that, too. These dresses – button-through, slim-fit affairs that are ultra-flattering, with an effortless air that’s synonymous with the material – are ladylike and elegant. Layered over a neat blouse or shirt, they are just the thing to slot into your rotation of office attire. You’ll probably feel more polished if you stick to white or black, but if blue is your color of choice, look for dark indigo rather than a light, vintage wash, to ensure your outfit is smart enough to pass muster.
