The Best New Beauty Products Of 2022
We all have our go-to essentials – a favorite serum, a great cleanser – but there’s also a plethora of new standout devices, tools, treatments and makeup heroes that can take your regimen to the next level in the year ahead. Here, NEWBY HANDS shares her pick of the products that really deliver
Costa Brazil Massage Tool
Part muscle massager, part gua sha, part de-puffing device, this is your new face and body multitasking problem-solver. As with everything that Costa Brazil does, it looks beautiful – more like modern sculpture than a beauty tool – but you can also use it to release tension in the face; reach it round to work between tight shoulders; use it flat so the coolness takes down puffiness; or on its side to sculpt skin. It’s a travel, desk and bedside-table essential.
Kjaer Weis Im-possible Mascara
This is one of those products that women talk about: they try it, love it, and tell others how good it is. With a brush that builds volume on one side, and gives more defined length with the other, the real beauty of this mascara is that it gives lashes a luxuriously soft (not brittle), true-black finish that lasts.
Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare DRx SprectraLite BodyWare Pro
Having used the brand’s LED face mask for several months, I can vouch that it works – the change in the texture of my skin is visible. And now we have the same FDA-cleared technology in a very useful body panel. It’s great for treating skin quality (red light) and breakouts (blue light), but red LED also aids sleep and reduces inflammation.
Victoria Beckham Beauty Posh Lipstick
Not all lipsticks are the same, and this bestselling vegan range comes with the most silky, buttery texture. Plus, the slender bullet is ultra-chic and easy to fit in a purse. And, while most makeup talk is about finding that ‘perfect’ red or nude, the world’s most coveted lipstick shade is, in fact, pink. Which explains why these beautiful rose-pink hues are near-constant sell-outs.
Oribe Très Set Structure Spray
This high-tech update on the classic styling spray transforms from a mist to a non-sticky mousse when sprayed on hair. The list of what it does is long: it protects against heat, it keeps hair soft (not crunchy), it gives volume, makes tong-curls last and – I’m reliably informed – keeps curly hair bouncy and frizz-free.
FaceGym Electrical Muscle Stimulation Mask
Dr. Barbara Sturm Anti-Hair Fall Scalp Serum
This serum (and all of Dr. Barbara Sturm’s scalp serums, in fact) does far more than just treat the skin. Not only does it help create a healthy scalp – and take down any itching from the first use – it provides the perfect environment for stronger hair growth and works as a great volume-builder. Leaving roots fresher, not weighed down, it also seems to keep my hair cleaner for longer.
Refy Brow Collection
Often, the most innovative products come out of personal need, so when Jess Hunt wanted an alternative to her eight-step daily brow routine, she developed this three-step range instead. With a slimline pencil, Brow Pomade and (my favorite) the Brow Sculpt gel/wax, it’s so quick to get your brows in shape now. Alternatively, just use the Sculpt product and brows will instantly look groomed, and your face more ‘finished’.
MZ Skin LED 2.0 LightMAX Supercharged LED Mask
As LED masks become a mainstay in our home regimens, this new flexible silicon version from Dr. Maryam Zamani is excellent. With red and a red/blue light combination, it treats breakouts and general skin quality with a clinical-grade treatment, and it’s also the most comfortable, wearable LED face mask I have used.
Supergoop! Glowscreen SPF30
This is one product that so many women I speak to use, love and rave about – probably because it delivers on so many fronts. While giving good, reliable sun protection, it also treats and hydrates skin with vitamin B5 and HA, and leaves a glitter-free glow that looks great on its own or makes an excellent makeup primer.
Philip Kingsley Vitamin C Jelly Detoxifying Hair and Scalp Treatment
For decades, vitamin C has been many a hair salon’s secret weapon. The reason is simple: used on wet hair, it lifts pollution, product buildup and anything else that weighs down locks and dulls color (natural or otherwise). And this hero scalp treatment does exactly the same thing, leaving hair feeling fresh and full of natural body, with color looking cleaner and brighter (just don’t use on newly dyed roots).
Augustinus Bader The Leave-in Hair Treatment
For those who find that many hair products just coat the hair rather than treat it, this is perfect for you. Don’t be fooled by the super-light texture (you really do need very little), either: when worked though the ends of damp or dry hair, it gives that beautiful velvet-smooth finish you normally only achieve after a recent blow-dry.
Tata Harper Redefining Body Balm
A truly indulgent buttery balm that transforms moisturizing the body into an aromatic mini ritual. It’s a joy to use, with its soft, enveloping scent and the incredible glow it leaves on bare skin – and a little goes a long way. Use it regularly to elevate arid skin.
Charlotte Tilbury Super Radiance Resurfacing Facial
Vanity Planet Hot and Cold Smart Face Steamer
This clever device updates steaming by allowing you to adapt your treatment to your skin type – do you need more hydration, or extra-deep pore cleansing? Plus, it uses cold as well as heat to finish your treatment as, like face icing, the cold helps tighten the pores and firm up your complexion, holding on to hydration for a smooth, almost ‘glass-skin’ finish. Vanity Planet is coming soon.
