Issey Miyake
Founded in Tokyo in 1970, ISSEY MIYAKE treats fabric as a form of liquid architecture, with pieces often beginning as a singular, unbroken thought — a piece of cloth that only fully reveals itself once it moves through space. Structurally defined by ma (間), the Japanese principle of beauty in what is left empty, the house builds its collections from the yarn up under the artistic direction of Satoshi Kondo, blending ancient textile techniques with modern engineering. Asymmetric tops, sculptural tunics and fluid pants are shaped with internal drawstrings, architectural drapes and elemental wrapping techniques, turning garments into soft monuments to ordinary, beautiful daily life.
