A curated round-up of the best new fashion arrivals, hand-picked by our editors
As heatwaves send temperatures soaring in many countries across the world, the PORTER fashion team has spent the past few weeks mastering the art of summer-in-the-city dressing. What’s the key to keeping your cool without letting sartorial standards slip? Opt for uncomplicated pieces in breathable fabrics and with subtle design details that rule out the need for too many accessories, allowing you to keep the overall look fuss-free. Cult label Dôen’s ultra-feminine silk sundress, for example, has an elegantly embroidered neckline and waist-cinching silhouette, meaning it can be styled simply with a pair of minimal sandals and gold hoop earrings for an effortless look that works just as well for on- and off-duty days. For something a little more utilitarian, Tibi’s khaki cotton playsuit is practical and polished, making it the kind of fail-safe piece you’ll reach for again and again. Keep the look suitably understated by pairing with Isabel Marant’s embellished suede slides.
As much as we might like it to, summer won’t last forever, and with some covetable pre-fall pieces beginning to drop, now is the time to consider your fall look. Junior fashion market editor Abbi Minchin has been honing her new-season shopping list since the collections first debuted – and when Bottega Veneta’s elegant brown suit landed on site, she knew this was one piece she had to have.
“I have been eying up this Bottega Veneta suit since I first spotted it in January. Everyone needs a power suit in their closet, and with its oversized blazer and wide-leg pant, this is the perfect statement set. As life begins to return to normal (albeit slowly), I can’t wait to shed my at-home clothing and take this dreamy suit for a spin. I’ll style it with barely-there heels for a relaxed but impactful look. However, I also intend to maximize its versatility by wearing the pieces separately – shrugging the blazer on with a mini dress and combat boots and pairing the pants with a plain white tee and chunky gold chain.”
Accessories and jewelry are a great starting point when transitioning from summer to fall. From cult brand Khaite’s suede clutch to Anita Ko’s contemporary take on fine jewelry (the LA-based designer is a favorite of everyone from Michelle Obama and Gwyneth Paltrow to Gigi Hadid and Rihanna), start incorporating these pieces into your look now for a jump-start on the season.
