With a walk around our local park, or a trip to our neighborhood coffee shop, constituting not only a dose of exercise and fresh air but also the highlight of our day, dress accordingly by ensuring your everyday outerwear is up to scratch… A chic coat can elevate any ensemble. Case in point, London-based designer Rejina Pyo’s olive green, faux-leather jacket. This versatile piece strikes the illusive balance between polished and practical, meaning you’ll reach for it season after season. Style with everything from luxe track pants and silk slip dresses to denim (Agolde’s faded black straight-leg jeans make a worthwhile addition to any closet) for an effortless off-duty look.

For junior fashion market editor Abbi Minchin, it’s her ever-increasing collection of knitwear that she can always count on for sartorial solace. Which is exactly why, when a sleek knit dress by AZ Factory – legendary designer Alber Elbaz’s new fashion concept – dropped on NET-A-PORTER this week, she was quick to snap it up. “The only things I want to wear at the moment are knits in all shapes and forms, and, although I have my eye on an abundance of styles, I am trying to make considered purchases,” says Minchin. “This AZ Factory dress ticks all the boxes – understated and comfortable, yet perfect for any occasion. For the moment, I’ll be styling this wear-anywhere piece with a long-line coat and chunky ankle boots – perfect for my daily walk. However, when wining and dining is back on the agenda, I’ll elevate it by making use of the detachable shoulder drape and finishing with a chic pair of barely-there sandals. I’m counting down the days until I can debut this after-dark look.”

Of course, if you’re looking for pieces with maximum ROI, timeless accessories and jewelry are the way to go. The beauty of Alaïa’s lazer-cut tote bag belies its wearability. This capacious piece is decidedly utilitarian, boasting room for your daily essentials and then some. However, to reduce fashion and design to mere function is to miss the point entirely. Jewelry may be pure adornment, but its inherent talismanic qualities and our tendency towards sentimentality for special pieces makes it an integral part of any woman’s closet. Exquisite items, such as Sydney Evan’s diamond-studded pendant, can transform even the most low-key look – and therein lies their magic.
