Danish street-style star Emili Sindlev’s Copenhagen hot list

Danish stylist Emili Sindlev is a regular fixture on best-dressed lists the world over, thanks to her effortless yet exuberant take on Scandi style. So we were excited when the Copenhagen native agreed to take us on a tour of her favorite local hot spots – dressed head-to-toe in Ganni, which recently celebrated its tenth anniversary with an exuberant, dancing-in-the-rain catwalk finale. Not only is the home-grown brand a personal favorite of Sindlev’s, it’s the cult label credited with putting Danish style back on the map. Scroll down to discover Sindlev’s personal city guide…

Best for brunch… Hotel Sanders

“The vibe at Hotel Sanders is very relaxed: you can get comfortable surrounded by amazing plants, flowers and beautiful furniture – it feels like someone’s home. I do a lot of breakfast meetings here during the week, but I also like to come here at the weekend for brunch with my boyfriend. The menu is pretty simple, but they have everything you need. I always order a glass of fresh juice with my boiled eggs, but they also have the most delicious bread – you have to try it! My only rule when it comes to dressing for brunch is to make sure not to wear anything too tight – so you can eat a lot.”

The King’s Garden

Best for a moment of calm… The King’s Garden

“I have been coming to The King’s Garden since I was a little girl – I’ve always loved spending time here. It’s stunning spots like this that make Copenhagen the beautiful city it is. Now, I live nearby – my place actually has a charming view over the gardens and the castle – so I get to pass through it all the time. When you live in a city, it’s important to take the opportunity to get out in nature. During the summer there is such a good atmosphere in the gardens – they’re full of people hanging out and playing music. I love spending long days chilling here with friends.”

Best for a quick bite… YoBurger

“I love a good burger once in a while. YoBurger is my top choice: the burgers are the perfect size and are greasy – in a good way. It’s the perfect place to start a night out if you’re looking for a quick bite. During the week, I really enjoy low-key dinners, but at the weekend I’ll treat myself and go somewhere fancy. No matter where I’m going I like to get dressed up – my outfits are dictated by my mood, not my schedule.”

Atelier September / Mo Lamps pop-up

Best for shopping… Atelier September / Mo Lamps pop-up

“Atelier September and its cafe always does the most brilliant pop-ups, selling everything from flowers to vintage clothes, and right now they are working with lighting designers Mo Lamps. I’m a huge fan of the brand – in fact I have three of its pieces at home! But there’s always room for another lamp on my wish list – I love them. My approach to interiors is similar to fashion: whatever medium I am working in, the end goal is to express myself.”

Best for a fun night out… Pastis

“We Danes know how to enjoy ourselves – and you’re guaranteed to have a good night at Pastis. It’s kind of like a cosy Parisian bistro. The atmosphere is great, the drinks are delicious and the people are friendly. I have a lot of good memories of times I’ve spent here with my girlfriends – in the past few years it’s kind of become our spot. My go-to order is steak tartare and fries, washed down with a grapefruit cocktail. I’d wear anything for a night out, but I’m particularly fond of an oversized suit, or, at the other end of the spectrum, a micro-mini dress paired with colorful high heels.”

King’s New Square

Best for people watching… King’s New Square

“This regal square, just outside the Royal Ballet, really is the centre of the city. So many people pass through here every day – including myself – and there’s always something to see. In the winter they set up an ice rink around the statue of Christian V; when I was a little girl my dad would bring me here to skate. This historical spot really is the heart of Copenhagen.”
