Discover Erdem’s Ultra-Romantic Resort 2022 Collection
The British designer takes us on a nostalgic jaunt around London to celebrate his label’s 15-year anniversary.
Erdem Moralioglu is not just a fashion designer, but a storyteller, too. For his pre-Spring 2022 collection, instead of sartorially reinterpreting the life of a historical muse – as with previous seasons – he has conjured a love letter to London style. In many ways, it is the story of his own 15-year legacy of exquisite collections, as he revamps house favorites. Renowned for his romantic, whimsical, and subversive creations, he is celebrating this milestone by taking us on a trip around London to marvel at some of his most iconic pieces.
Paying homage to the significant places where he has shown and shot his collections, Moralioglu takes us from legendary London landmarks – such as the National Portrait Gallery and the Royal Academy of Arts – to Bedford Square and Manchester Square, showcasing his stunning dresses, which are all steeped in Erdem history.
There is ‘The Audley’, a divine cotton-jacquard shirt dress named after the brand’s sleek flagship store in London’s upmarket Mayfair. Neatly tailored with classic shirting for the top half, which falls to an airy pleated skirt, it defies dress codes and can be worn casually as well as to more formal affairs. By day, belt it to enhance the defined waistline and finish with neat brogues. And for an after-hours look, just add slouchy leather boots, gold hoops and a slick of lipstick.
“Irreverent yet chic, classic but modern, pretty and powerful – it’s easy to see why Erdem is adored by so many
”
The ‘Cora’ dress comes in a similar shirt-dress silhouette, but is finished in an embroidered linen, making it ideal for garden parties and special events. It also makes for a dreamy ‘day-two dress’ for brides. Style it with slipper-style flats, or sleek stilettos, and some lustrous pearl earrings for a decidedly elegant look.
Exuberant, feminine florals are an Erdem hallmark and, this season, delicate pink blooms decorate the brand’s highly coveted ‘Fraser’ dress. Cut from a crisp cotton poplin, it comes in a porcelain white that makes for a perfect canvas to exhibit the lush print. The silhouette is precise yet playful, featuring a flattering smocked waist to cinch the A-line silhouette, puffed shoulders and a split skirt. This pretty and stylish midi is one you’ll want to reach for again and again; wear it with barely-there sandals and statement earrings as the perfect wedding-guest ensemble.
Irreverent yet chic, classic but modern; pretty and powerful, it’s easy to see why Erdem is adored by so many – Sienna Miller, Kate Bosworth and Kristin Scott Thomas are amongst his legions of fans. What’s more, after 15 years, Moralioglu’s star is still in firm ascent. In November 2021, he was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire, in recognition of his services to the fashion industry. And this latest collection proves there is much more beauty to come from this brilliant designer.
