What will the PORTER’s fashion editors be buying – and wearing – over the holiday break?
With the holidays just around the corner, the PORTER fashion team – based in London and New York – has been pondering what our ‘perfect’ festive closet would look like. First and foremost, we’re all excited for a little break from reality, and looking forward to a time when the only item on the agenda is catching up with family and friends. Meaning, when it comes to getting dressed, comfort is key. However, this emphasis on coziness is no excuse for letting your sartorial standards slip. This holiday season, look to Parisian powerhouse Chloé for a suitably stylish take on off-duty dressing. As ever, creative director Natacha Ramsay-Levi put a contemporary twist on the brand’s signature bohemian aesthetic, with ’70s-inspired pieces that are steeped in romance yet more than up to the demands of modern life. A silk blouse with a playful tie-neck detail and embroidered cargo pants are both celebratory and endlessly wearable. Styled together or dressed down with oversized knits and blue denim, they make for a host of compelling low-key looks – ideal for lounging, long lunches or visiting friends.
If festive gatherings demand a more polished dress code – but you’re strictly anti-sequin – look to iconic label Alaïa for an elegant take on traditional party dressing. A butter-soft leather skirt, cut in a universally flattering A-line shape, is the kind of trophy piece you’ll wear, and cherish, forever. The gently cinched waist means it’ll work with everything from voluminous blouses to simple tees, but Peter Do’s second-skin turtleneck is the perfect accompaniment for holiday season. Finish your outfit with graphic gold jewels and a wristlet for an effortless ensemble that will ensure you’ve got best-dressed guest in the bag.
