How Michael Kors Brought Back Glamour For SS22

With a keen eye for laid-back luxury and discerning attention to detail, Michael Kors epitomizes timeless, American glamour. Since his brand’s inception in 1981, the designer has created pieces that celebrate the women who wear them – and for SS22, he was also celebrating his love for New York City. “I think we’re all ready to focus on the simple, powerful pleasures of love – romantic love, love for one another, love for the places that sustain us, which in my case is New York,” says Kors. “It’s a special thrill to celebrate the resilience and rebirth of the city and the fashion industry with a live runway show. This collection pays homage to everything I love about spring in the city – the energy, the mix of people, the romance and laid-back glamour.”

Urban romance was certainly in the air at the SS22 runway show, which was staged at the iconic Tavern on the Green in the heart of Central Park. The runway criss-crossed the restaurant’s alfresco terrace, which had been transformed into a peaceful oasis of lush greenery, including blossom trees, trailing vines and a profusion of roses and hydrangeas. And, as can always be expected from a Michael Kors show, there was no shortage of star power. A live musical performance by actor and singer Ariana DeBose set the tone for the presentation, as models including Gigi Hadid, Precious Lee, Adut Akech and Irina Shayk walked the sunlit runway. DeBose, who wore Michael Kors Collection and sang a medley of love songs for her performance, has firmly cemented her status as one to watch in Hollywood since starring in Steven Spielberg’s highly acclaimed reimagining of West Side Story, for which she has been nominated for an Oscar.
