A curated round-up of the best new fashion arrivals, hand-picked by our editors
There is something quite transformative about closet staples with unique details, and one designer who consistently excels in this department is Jonathan Anderson.
For his SS20 JW Anderson runway collection, he experimented with simple shapes, so it comes as no surprise that this blazer is what our Senior Fashion Features Editor Gillian Brett is besotted with this week.
“I love how Jonathan Anderson blends innovation and tradition in everything he does, and makes everyday pieces look and feel extraordinary,” she says. “His SS20 show was one of my highlights of the season, and I’ve been eagerly waiting for this blazer to drop. I love the simplicity of the beige and white palette against the subversion of the sculptural volume. And as someone who goes light on accessories, the crystal embellishment does the hard work for me. I’ll wear it with tailored pants and sleek square-toed boots in the office, with my hair swept back in a low ponytail to show off the sharply tailored lapels.”
If you, too, are craving staple pieces with something extra special about them, check out Rejina Pyo’s take on the asymmetric midi skirt. The London-based designer finds inspiration in people’s lives, which explains why this statement skirt has the ability to slip straight into our wardrobes, week in, week out, but feels unique thanks to its textural contrast and bold color-blocking. Valentino has also taken basics to the next level via its revamped version of the classic straw tote – adding a leather trim and gold logo clasp. Team it with a knitted midi dress for a relaxed off-duty look, or switch it up for the office with a tailored jumpsuit. On the footwear front, Jimmy Choo’s black suede heels, with a diamanté train that snakes elegantly across the shoe, are a sophisticated example of how to do basics, but better.
