Most Wanted
A curated roundup of the best new fashion arrivals, hand-picked by our editors
There’s never been a better time to embrace color in your wardrobe – in fact dressing oneself in bright hues is proven to lift our spirits. And thankfully, it’s never been easier to do so, as designers were channeling the essence of sartorial optimism with their palettes this season, proposing a closet filled with acid brights to put a spring in your step.
Case in point: Christopher John Rogers’ technicolor-striped knit. The New York-based wunderkind, who has dressed everyone from American Vice President Kamala Harris to Rihanna and Zendaya, is renowned for his unabashed use of color that invokes an effervescent mood. This season, he proves color isn’t just for the beach: fluoro limes, candy pinks and zingy oranges are given an everyday, trans-seasonal practicality when rendered in a long-sleeved knit. That’s why it took the top slot on senior fashion features editor Gillian Brett’s new-season shopping list.
“The kaleidoscopic colors for resort ’22 are irresistible,” she says. “I’m finding it so difficult to commit to just one color trend that I’ve opted for an all-in-one approach with this joyful rainbow-hued knit. Beyond its mood-boosting effect, I love the slightly oversized silhouette, which has just enough slouch for a cool, relaxed look.”
For daytime, Brett suggests tucking it into a pair of tailored pants, or jeans, and she has her eye on Ahluwalia’s wide-legged, wavy-patterned pair. A collaboration between the London designer and Nigerian artist Dennis McInnes, the denim is printed with cool asymmetric patterns that mimic and celebrate Black and South Asian braids. Isabel Marant’s chunky clogs and Loewe’s tactile monogrammed tote will bring a beach-to-brunch sensibility as the thermometer starts to climb.
For a dressier take, don Tove’s ‘Juliane’ midi dress in a rich emerald hue that recalls the lushest landscapes, and shrug the striped knit around your shoulders – its slouchy shape makes it ideal for layering and will help you ward off any chill as the evening sets in, but it will prove just as perfect for gallery-hopping days come spring. JW Anderson’s fluoro ‘Anchor’ bag and gold jewelry (we adore Mateo’s ‘Half Moon’ diamond earrings) bring a city-ready polish, whatever the weather – or season.
