With summer drawing to a close and the PORTER fashion team – like many others – preparing to return to the office, our thoughts have inevitably turned towards work; or, more specifically, overhauling our nine-to-five looks. After months of working from home, we’ve all fallen into different rhythms, with some colleagues championing more casual outfits and others maintaining that dressing appropriately is crucial to their WFH mindset. No matter which camp you fall into, the key to building a faultless return-to-work capsule is investing in timeless pieces you can style in myriad ways.

Take Brunello Cucinelli’s sumptuous leather shorts. During the summer months, style them with a simple tank top and finish with Totême’s cotton cargo shirt for an effortless look. When temperatures drop, switch in a second-skin turtleneck and finish with a top-handle bag and dainty gold jewels; Maria Tash’s cult earrings work with everything. If you prefer a more feminine look, New York-based brand Tibi’s linen midi dress also boasts year-round appeal. Gently cinched at the waist, this understated piece is universally flattering and – depending on your choice of accessories – can go from desk to dinner with just a simple styling switch-up. While the sun is still shining, wear it with luxe flip flops; then, after dark, simply add barely-there sandals to elevate this fail-safe piece.

Wearability was at the forefront of senior fashion features editor Gillian Brett’s mind while finalizing her new-season wish list, which is why she was quick to snap up Vince’s louche tailoring as soon as it landed on site.

“I cannot resist relaxed suiting, and this Vince two-piece definitely stands out for its sleek-yet-slouchy silhouette and unusual sage-green color. I’m generally quite a low-key dresser, so I’ll style it with a white tank top and matching sneakers; I’m obsessed with Loewe’s chic-yet-understated suede and leather styles, and this pair by Re/Done has also recently caught my eye. When the time comes to get dressed up again, I’ll pair it with a silk cami top, some ’90s-style square-toed sandals and a chunky chain necklace.”
