Color confidence

Stars including Demi Moore, Isabelle Huppert and Simone Ashley have all gone big on color this year. Cannes jury member Moore and her stylist Brad Goreski have served a series of show-stopping looks, including two custom red and lilac creations by Gucci and a voluminous bubble-gum pink design by Matières Fécales. Model Barbara Palvin also got the memo, looking pretty in pink Willy Chavarria at the Trophée Chopard awards, while Ashley and Huppert stunned in vintage red McQueen and Gucci respectively.

Sheer beauty

The trend for sheer silhouettes may be at odds with the official Cannes dress code, but that hasn’t stopped celebrities from embracing it on this year’s red carpet. Natasha Poly challenged the no naked dressing rule in a see-through georgette and pleated satin gown by Ferragamo, Chloé Zhao stepped out in a pointelle-knit gown from Gabriela Hearst’s fall/winter 2026 collection, and Riley Keough shined in a diaphanous Chanel skirt suit, which she tempered with tonal underpinnings. Rules are made to be broken, after all.

Dark romance

A trend first seen at the Oscars in March, the mood for dark romance is stronger than ever, with Ruth Negga, Cate Blanchett and sisters Cara and Poppy Delevingne all dialing up the drama in black gowns replete with ruffles, velvet and lace. Styled by Karla Welch, Negga arrived at the La Vie D’Une Femme premiere resplendent in a custom Saint Laurent gown featuring a guipure lace bodice and a tulle peplum at the waist. Elsewhere, Cara Delevingne opted for an open-back design traced with sculptural ruffles by Haider Ackermann for Tom Ford.

’90s minimalism

’90s minimalism is ruling the red carpet as well as the runways, with several guests choosing pristine white gowns, letting the clean, minimal shapes speak for themselves. See Alicia Vikander and Emma Mackey, who both attended screenings for their new films over the weekend in custom cut-out looks by Louis Vuitton. Meanwhile, Hannah Einbinder and Ruth Negga both kept things simple in effortlessly chic all-white outfits by Celine.

Fashion feathers

At once interesting, glamorous and statement-making, feathers have adorned some of the most talked-about looks of the festival so far. Salma Hayek stole the show in a swan-like creation by Gucci at the 2026 Kering Women In Motion Awards, as did fellow actor Julianne Moore, who arrived at the ceremony in custom Bottega Veneta complete with a bag covered in cool white plumes. Sandra Hüller went one step further at the premiere of Fatherland wearing a dramatic feathered ensemble by Chanel couture worthy of its own standing ovation.
