Double denim
“Denim is so versatile, and each garment has the ability to create many looks or tap into lots of different moods. Whether you’re dressing it up or down, you can pretty much mix and match it with everything – that’s what I love about double denim in particular. This Toteme shirt and tailored jeans functions as separates, but, worn together, looks cohesively put together, especially as the mid-blue denim wash is quite tonal. Denim dresses serve a similar function. I think of double denim like a casual suit: it’s so easy to throw on and the opportunities are endless for making the look your own. If my clients are ever concerned about pulling it off, I remind them that accessories are their friends – adding a belt or some beautiful jewelry can really elevate your outfit. On a night out, pair denim with heels and a clutch and you’re ready to go. For daytime, opt for a boot or a ballet pump. I wear denim every day, and the investment in new-season wares always pays off.”

A transitional trench coat
“The trench is a classic staple that every workwear closet needs. It’s the definition of a wardrobe building block: very hard-working; super-versatile; appropriate for many different occasions, from work to weekend; plus it has the ability to make you feel polished, even if you just slip it on over a basic T-shirt and jeans. I always advise my clients to invest in a good trench coat, as it really is something you can wear for years to come. Magda Butrym, Isabel Marant and The Row all offer excellent versions for FW23. There’s lots of fun to be had with outerwear this season, but when it comes to a trench coat, stick to stony, muted colorways and classic fits for a reliably timeless capsule piece that works with everything. I’d pair The Row’s trench with a knit and jeans for an easy everyday look, but, after dark, it will also look polished worn over a slip dress.”

The ballet flat
“Ballet flats are having a major moment again, and I love how easy they are to throw on and add polish to any outfit. When you invest in staple items it really shows, and this pair from Loeffler Randall is beautiful. Cute and elegant, the design’s elasticated strap reminds me of the real ballet pumps I had when I was a child. Meanwhile, Jacquemus’ block-toed version is a cool take on the pointe-shoe silhouette that feels modern. Such a refined flat is a nice switch-up from the chunky loafer styles we’ve seen around in recent seasons, but, crucially, they aren’t impractical to wear. For something sparklier, Khaite’s crystal-adorned versions look amazing with a classic straight-leg jean and cotton shirt, but also super-elegant with a black dress for dinner – the perfect sole savior as we head towards the festive season.”
