New York-based designer Nili Lotan is a firm believer in the power of timeless wardrobe staples. When she launched her first collection in 2003, she did so with just six garments; and while the brand has grown significantly since then, her mission remains the same – to offer super-elevated, versatile basics you’ll wear on repeat.

Arriving just in time for FW24, this ‘Valdorf’ sweater is knitted from exceptionally soft cashmere in mottled shades of gray, with an elegant V-neckline that’s perfect for framing the collar of a crisp white shirt. “I never regret investing in quality knitwear, and this clean yet sophisticated sweater from Nili Lotan is an essential as the weather turns cooler,” says NET-A-PORTER shopping assistant Connie Daw. “I would throw it over a crew-neck T-shirt and add a tailored blazer for work, switching it up with a silk slip skirt and simple sandals for dinner in the evening,” she adds. Alternatively, style yours with relaxed blue jeans, adding silver mesh ballet flats by Le Monde Béryl and a statement bag, such as Khaite’s studded ‘Elena’ style in emerald suede, for weekends filled with brunch dates, museum visits and trips to the farmers’ market.

Alongside a refined knit, no fall capsule closet is complete without a beautifully cut jacket, and the chicest investments this season come in sleek, nipped-in shapes. A highlight from the runway, Tove’s collarless ‘Selena’ blazer is designed in a long-line silhouette and fastens with a single abstract button at the front. For dressier events, swap your trusty denim for neatly tailored pants and slip on a pair of point-toe slingbacks. Finally, complement the sculptural hardware with Lié Studio’s ‘Diana’ hoops and finish with a red lip.

Whether you’re lacking confidence in your closet or simply want to fall back in love with your clothes, How To Wear Everything by NET-A-PORTER fashion director Kay Barron is your no-nonsense guide to getting dressed every day. With a little help from a few seriously stylish contributors, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Monica Bellucci and Law Roach, Barron offers invaluable advice on everything from how to find the perfect pair of jeans to mastering what to pack (and what not to) for vacation.

‘How To Wear Everything’ is out now in the UK, and on September 10 in the US
