The A-list Share Their Best Pre-Party Beauty Hacks
From WINNIE HARLOW’s plan-ahead peel tip and MIRANDA KERR’s foundation glow trick to ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY’s overnight-tan strategy: NEWBY HANDS asks the beauty A-list to share the pre-event secrets they swear by
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, model and entrepreneur
“I like a sheet mask for instant hydration, and I love the Rose Gold Brightening Facial Treatment Mask from 111Skin. Before bed, I always use my Rose Inc Radiant Reveal Brightening Serum, and it makes a great pre-makeup primer, too, because it plumps up skin and is absorbed fast. I also love a spray tan the night before an event, so I’ll exfoliate really well and then go to bed with tan on.”

“Rather than doing anything just before an event, I prefer to do a peel at least four days ahead, to let my skin heal. But I’ll definitely use a mask the day before and make sure I’ve moisturized well. I love Charlotte Tilbury’s foundation and bronzer – and Pat McGrath Labs’ Sublime Perfection Concealer is so creamy and delivers excellent coverage. I always use Shiseido eyeliner, too, because it’s so precise.”

“The evening before an event, I rinse my hair in fermented rice water that I keep in the fridge (it’s packed with vitamins for extra shine and smoothness), then I use a variety of beauty devices to tighten and sculpt my jawline and cheekbones – and follow with a quick face-icing session, using cryo sticks, to make my skin smooth and prepped for makeup. It’s fail-proof! My U Beauty The Super Tinted Hydrator doubles as a great primer and gives a flawlessly natural glow. For bare arms and shoulders, I use more of the U Beauty The Sculpt Arm Compound than normal and apply it over my neck and décolletage (and even the tops of my hands) – and top it with CharlotteTilbury’s Supermodel Body. And I always add a dab of fragrance between the upper lip and nostrils – it’s all people will smell when speaking to you.”

“The day before an event, I use an infrared sauna blanket to detox; and the night before, I add a double face mask – my Kora Organics Turmeric Brightening and Exfoliating Mask – to my usual night-time routine, plus a self-tan and hair treatment. Then, before I put on my makeup, I apply a generous layer of my Noni Glow Sleeping Mask as a 10-minute hydrating treatment and give myself a little massage with gua sha tools fresh from the fridge. Instead of foundation, I blend one or two drops of facial oil into RMS Beauty’s UnCoverup concealer pot and use a makeup brush to buff the mixture into my skin – it gives a sheer wash of coverage and radiance. I also use Charlotte Tilbury’s cream eyeshadows on my eyes and keep it simple with her nude peach glossy lipstick, but I do love a bright red lip, too. To make my lipstick last, I color in my whole lip with a lip pencil first – it works every time.”

Shani Darden, aesthetician
“I love to do a lactic-acid peel before an event, using the professional peel I created, or the Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Peel pads. I always use my Shani Darden Facial Sculpting Wand daily leading up to an event, too, as it’s really great for contouring the face and is the perfect treatment before applying makeup. If I need extra hydration, I use the Nigma Talib ND Treatment Mask No 1 – which hugs the face well, instead of hanging off like some sheet masks do – before applying the remaining serum from the mask pouch all over my body for an added moisture boost. I’m also obsessed with my hair, so for extra shine or hydration, I’ll use a little hair oil to finish.”

Dr. Barbara Sturm, cosmetic doctor
“The night before an event, I’ll go to bed wearing my Dr. Barbara Sturm Face Mask, and sometimes I take a milk bath, too – literally adding whole milk and dark honey (darker honey has higher antioxidant properties) to the hot water. Then, on the day, I’ll do my home version of the in-clinic Glow Facial: I cleanse and exfoliate using my Enzyme Cleanser, before applying my Face Mask again for 10 minutes – I also use it on my arms if I’m going to be wearing a sleeveless dress. I then rub it off (never use water) and apply my Hyaluronic Serum, Face Cream and Glow Drops – I also use these down the front of my legs for extra radiance. Your skin will feel so amazing, you may even skip foundation.”

Nam Vo, makeup artist
“I have a tendency to eat salty foods and retain water, so the night before, I avoid anything that might cause bloating. I always use a mask, sometimes two – the Natura Bissé Stabilizing Cleansing Mask and Omorovicza Blue Diamond Resurfacing Peel are favorites. I use all the tools – you name it, I have it! I’d definitely suggest investing in a steamer, as it’s a key step for that dewy look, but my all-time favorite device has to be a Cellreturn LED Mask. I use mine once a day and I’m obsessed with it. I also use my Charlotte Tilbury Cryo-Recovery Face Mask for depuffing, followed by a treatment mask and Angela Caglia’s Gold Cryo Facial wands to massage on top. I add some body glow to any area of skin that’s exposed, too.”
