When The Devil Wears Prada’s Miranda Priestly flatly denounced spring florals for not being ‘groundbreaking’, the film’s fictional editor clearly didn’t anticipate the ingenious ways in which designers would reimagine the trend with corsage details and impressionistic watercolors for SS23. Dries Van Noten’s artful take sees the brand’s silk-chiffon blouse dappled with green and orange flowers, and cascading ruffles along one shoulder. Dress down the vibrant print with Christopher Esber’s straight-leg jeans and simple white sandals for a high-low contrast at a garden party or weekend lunch. Then, for dinner and drinks, take your cues from the runway and pair the blouse with the brand’s clashing printed skirt.

Loewe’s efflorescent new collection is offering some of the most evocative pieces for spring. The brand’s lime green leather mini dress, for example, features a three-dimensional anthurium flower affixed to one strap of the dress, like an avant-garde corsage. Sabina Khan, NET-A-PORTER’s senior fashion assistant, describes it as the perfect piece for dressed-up events, with the versatility to be styled for daytime, too. “My closet is usually quite monochrome, especially in the winter months, but when spring comes around, I feel inspired to dip into something a little more exciting,” she says. “This bright-green dress is ideal for stepping into spring and summer style. I would wear it with minimal strappy, high-heeled sandals and gold jewels by David Yurman for a night out. For a more casual approach, pair it with some cowboy boots, and oversized sunglasses by Celine Eyewear.”

For luxe accessories that can take your look to the next level, add Magda Butrym’s floral appliquéd sandals to your closet – the statement denim-and-leather heels look divine with floaty dresses for special occasions. If you prefer to lean into new-season florals in a more subtle way, consider Irene Neuwirth’s dainty ‘Tropical Flower’ pendant – it’s cast from 18-karat rose gold with tanzanite petals and a sparkling blue sapphire at the center. The pretty lilac hue complements light pink, pale blue, beige, and gold-tone dresses – string it onto your favorite chain or attach it to a huggie hoop earring for a considered nod to spring.
