Directional ways of embracing sensuality and joy are a welcome offering for the FW22 season. Knitwear is reimagined with contemporary cutouts, while column shapes elongate the silhouette. Elsewhere, fashion’s favorite shade – black – returns to the center of the zeitgeist, while the vibrancy of 2022’s high-impact colors ensures our accessories provide daily sunshine.

When deciding on the foundation pieces that will see you through the season, an oversized wool coat with a sleek black leather boot is a fail-safe choice. Practical dressing, however, isn’t exclusive to minimalists, and the sparkle of high-shine accessories not only heralds the festive season but tempts us to add a little playfulness to our closets.

Keep reading to find out how our team of fashion experts from across the globe are wearing the ultimate trends of the season.

Kay Barron, fashion director

Which FW22 trend are you excited about?

“No one is more thrilled than I am that black is the color of FW22. Sure, pink is having its moment but, personally, I feel that black deserves some celebration as the ultimate ‘forever classic’. While it may have to compete with the bolder shades of the season, it never, ever falls out of favor. I love wearing black top-to-toe – it makes a statement and, most importantly, everything matches.”

If you could buy only one piece this season, what would it be?

“It’s going to have to be a trophy dress. Whether that’s an all-singing, all-dancing sequin number or a super-slick Saint Laurent slip dress, this season, we see a return to dressing for going out-out – and I’m all for that.”

Are you trying anything new for FW22?

“It’s not a new trend or style, but I will be diving into the brand Coperni this season, which is new to me – but only because the pieces I like keep selling out before I can get my hands on them!”

Which FW22 trend are you excited about?

“Periwinkle is one of my favorite colors for 2022 – it’s incredibly soothing, and I believe this specific shade of light purple adds a harmonious energy to my outfits. Also, there’s something quite futuristic about lilac that speaks to the digital world. Balenciaga’s ‘Le Cagole’ bucket bag really embodies this energy. It’s such a youthful design and reminds me of the bags I would wear as a teenager in the early 2000s.”

If you could buy only one piece this season, what would it be?

“I’m a dress girl, and when the cold weather creeps in, my attention is captured by the next great knitted maxi I can add to my closet. Loulou Studio’s vertical-striped wool dress is divine, and the pattern really elongates my frame. I also love pieces from Christopher John Rogers, Joslin and By Malene Birger.”

Are you trying anything new for FW22?

“Since buying a swimsuit by Louisa Ballou this summer, I’ve fallen in love with the way an asymmetrical neckline both reveals and conceals the décolletage at the same time. I’ll be taking my swimsuit into fall by wearing it as a bodysuit with a midi skirt, cropped jacket and ankle boots.”

Which FW22 trend are you excited about?

“I am in love with the black cutout top (below) by Gauge81, which elegantly reveals the shoulders and collarbones. The open back and dramatic choker detail add sensual flair to the outfit. Also, the Paco Rabanne crystal-embellished chainmail shoulder bag is my kind of accessory for a night out.”

If you could buy only one piece this season, what would it be?

“I would love to invest in an expertly tailored suit in either an ultra-saturated color or an exquisite statement print. The suits by Gucci and Tom Ford are cut to perfection, and they will be well worth the investment for many years to come.”

Are you trying anything new for FW22?

“Fashion houses like Fendi and Mugler have showcased sheer dresses for their FW22 collections, and it’s one of the trends I’ve been meaning to explore. The transparent fabric is so delicate, and the sinuous designs hug your curves beautifully.”
