How to enhance your eye color

Matching blue eyeliner to blue eyes is considered so outdated that no modern makeup lover would contemplate it, but contrasting certain tonal shades of makeup to your eye color can be transformational. Makeup guru CHARLOTTE TILBURY shares the eyeshadow secrets she applies to her A-list clients

Brown eyes

Most eyeshadow colors suit brown eyes, but anything with a vivid amber undertone, such as a warm bronze, works particularly well, while purple will exaggerate any green flecks.

Blue eyes

Neutral tones like gray and navy complement cool-blue eyes. A very light champagne or a glittery gunmetal gray-black will catch the glint of the iris without making too much of a statement.

Green eyes

Rose gold and deep purple make green eyes pop. A creamy mink or taupe in the inner corners will make them look bigger, but never use a harsh white – it’s too obvious.

Gray eyes

Sooty, smoky shades of blue-black play up a steely-gray eye color and will make it look incredibly blue. Also try experimenting with burgundy – it creates a truly beautiful contrast.

Hazel eyes

Stay away from blue tones and use emerald and soft gold to bring out the facets of hazel eyes. Anything metallic will intensify flecks and make eyes sparkle.
