Anja Rubik’s global hot spots

Polish model, activist and Parley for the Oceans ambassador ANJA RUBIK has spent her career traveling the world. Here, she shares the destinations that she returns to time and time again

Lifestyle
CUBAN COOL
Cuba’s artistic and cultural charm have long been a favorite with the supermodel

For inspiration

“Cuba is a magical place. I have been there multiple times, and I have artist friends who live there. It’s a fantastic place to relax, chill, listen to music and get inspired. I also love Berlin – there are always tons of art shows to see, there’s a great music scene and a very chilled vibe.”

For hanging out with friends

“I live in New York but I travel constantly. I have a house in Mallorca, and I often go back to Poland because I do a lot of campaigning projects there. When I’m in Paris, I stay with designer Anthony Vaccarello, and he comes and stays with me in my place in Mallorca. We’re not party animals; we like to do our own thing. We like the director Gaspar Noé – we watched Enter the Void together recently – and we love Kubrick.”

For a stylish bite

“Sa Foradada in Deià, Mallorca (+34 616 08 74 99), is the most incredible place for lunch. It’s a beautiful little restaurant carved into the mountain with the most incredible sea view. You can only get there by boat or by hiking – it’s very local and serves the best veggie paella.”

ISLAND ESCAPE
Rubik owns a home on the Balearic island of Mallorca

For vacation style

“I never really shop that much. Other than Saint Laurent, I’ll pop into Céline, Isabel Marant and Dries Van Noten. For every day, I’ll throw on jeans and a shirt, and I like tuxedo pants and a shirt. And in summer I’ll do a dress – my style becomes a bit more disheveled. When it comes to clothing, I’d rather buy one expensive piece, and keep it for longer, than buy lots of cheaper things. I think fashion is slowly moving in that direction.”

TOTAL IMMERSION
The crystal-clear water of the Maldives is one of Rubik’s favorite swimming spots

For the perfect dip

“The Maldives is one of the best places in the world to swim and snorkel. I also have my secret spots in Mallorca Spain where I go swimming naked, but if I tell you where they are, they won’t be secret anymore… I feel very comfortable under water; there is something so liberating about being so free. I started diving when I was 15, so I’ve seen how fast the coral and the life around it is disappearing.”

ON THE ROAD
Rubik relished the solitude and spontaneity of her scooter adventure in Nepal

For true adventure

“One of the most adventurous trips I have ever done was to Nepal. I traveled alone, rented a cool little scooter and went without a plan. It was completely spontaneous and so freeing – it’s truly the best way to travel.”
