Chloé’s line-up of modern classics and forever favorites
Creative director Natacha Ramsay-Levi offers up killer clothes and a new must-have bag for PF18
Natacha Ramsay-Levi arrived at Chloé with a bang; her debut, the SS18 offering unveiled on the Paris runway back in February, was an instant hit. It’s been packing out closets and Instagram feeds ever since with the world’s best-dressed clamoring to get their hands on the velvet suits, cowboy boots and gloriously pretty mini dresses. And now she’s back for round two with the arrival of Chloé’s PF18 collection.
Ramsay-Levi may not have been on your radar before her appointment as creative director of the storied French fashion house, but her clothes had probably made their way into your closet anyway. Having spent 15 years working as Nicolas Ghesquière’s right-hand woman, first at Balenciaga and then as design director at Louis Vuitton, Ramsay-Levi knows a thing or two about creating luxury, desirable clothes. And she’s already put her stamp on the youthful, bohemian spirit of Chloé, giving it a cool-girl attitude and a rock’n’roll edge.
If you loved the SS18 collection (of course you did), then this one is going to feel pleasingly familiar. Pre-fall, labels and studios across the board offer up the opportunity to really focus on great clothes that women want to wear every day – without the need for high-impact runway moments. Which is good news for your closet, especially as Ramsay-Levi clearly has a knack for whipping up pieces that have an ease and effortlessness that makes them irresistibly wearable, combined with an attention to detail that elevates them far beyond basics.
With a ’70s overtone, the collection combines earthy shades and a rich mix of textures. And you’ll want to start your wish list with the outerwear: the wear-forever long tan leather coat with its must-stroke shearling collar or the impossibly chic wool cape. But what goes underneath is just as strong, from the louche silk blouses to the slim-fit pants. There’s a neat blend of overtly feminine pieces – see the pretty printed blouses and bloom-covered mini dresses – and precisely cut, defiantly masculine ones, from cropped flared pants to the dandy-style burgundy cord blazer.
And then there are the must-have accessories. Taking their cue from last season’s greatest hits are lace-up ankle boots, slick over-the-knee boots, sophisticated gold hoop earrings and new-season takes on your favorite Nile and Roy bags. There’s also a brand-new bag for you to meet: the Roy bucket. With its modern take on the classic shape, it hits the sweet spot between function and fashion, thanks to its gold hardware, drawstring inner pouch – for keeping your essentials safe – and multiple straps.
There’s a timeless quality to each and every piece, so you can be certain that, once installed in your closet, you’ll be wearing them on repeat for years to come. But make no mistake, these are of-the-moment, modern classics – just what you’ll want to wear now. Add to basket fast before they’re gone.
