With the new season now in full swing, a crisp trench feels like the perfect light layering piece for these trans-seasonal days, and a camel-hued coat is a versatile style that can take you from dawn to dusk with ease. This season at Chloé, creative director Gabriela Hearst conjured a beautiful blanket-stitch detail in a sunny yellow, lending an artisanal air to this utilitarian closet staple.

It is for that reason that it caught the eye of fashion assistant Maya Gunavardhana, topping her shopping list for spring. “Now that winter is on its way out in London, a trench coat is the ultimate companion to see you through the season, and this iteration is the perfect piece with which to inject a subtle modern twist,” she says. “I usually err on the side of classic with my style, but Gabriela Hearst’s reimagining of it, using leather whipstitching, feels cool and new.”

For an easy new-season look, wide-legged pants in an off-white hue are just the ticket – while a cotton button-up in a powdery blue offers a seasonal update to the office wardrobe. Dress it up with a boxy bag from The Row and Cult Gaia’s sculptural sandals, while for a more informal take, Gunavardhana suggests Loewe’s retro-feel printed tote and a pair of Manolo Blahnik’s must-have collaboration with Birkenstock for a polished yet practical look.

And the ultimate finishing touch? Add Jia Jia’s opal necklace, which is a fresh alternative to an everyday diamond, with its superfine chain and stone pendant in a warm orange hue. Not only will it lend an air of everyday luxe to your outfit, it also complements the stitch detailing on the trench. Polished, practical and perfectly put together.
