How to wear SS19’s best belts

Just because belts are an integral part of your wardrobe (if you don’t have a stash you can call upon regardless of trends or seasons, then you should start building one, fast) doesn’t mean they can’t spark joy. Whether you’re using them to cinch in a dress or add some spit-and-polish to jeans, they’re the finishing touch your look needs

The obi belt

Extra-wide obi belts are at the statement-making end of the belt spectrum: depending on how high-impact you’re prepared to go, they range from a couple of inches wide to seriously deep, corset-like affairs. These are more decorative than functional, so wrap them over blazers and coats – they deserve to be seen.

The decorative belt

These belts prove that useful doesn’t have to be boring – think of them almost as a piece of jewelry and add one to your outfit as an extra flourish. Look for embellishments like stones or studs, plaited and woven rope-tie pieces (perfect for wearing with lighter dresses) and brightly colored printed canvas.

The classic belt

These are the ones that will work the hardest in your wardrobe so make sure you have a couple of options that you love. Opt for black or tan leather with chic metallic clasps – logos will add interest – and use it to elevate denim or tailored pants, or cinch sweaters and jackets.
