If you’ve ever wondered what the secret to Italian style is, just look up the dictionary definition of sprezzatura (a studied nonchalance) and consider the code cracked. “Italian style is an instinct rather than a formula. It’s deeply rooted in culture, craftsmanship and a very personal relationship with clothing,” says Vogue Italia’s fashion market editor, Marta Oldrini. “There is an ease to it – a sense of confidence that doesn’t rely on excess or overt statements. It’s expressive but never forced; elegant yet profoundly human.”
Oldrini herself embodies all the above, masterfully layering colors, textures and silhouettes with inherent ease. She may have no set uniform, but there is one piece in particular that’s always on heavy rotation in her wardrobe: the leather jacket. From our NET SUSTAIN edit, this version by Loewe has a softly gathered back and concealed drawstrings that create a unique balloon shape. “The cropped proportion of this jacket sharpens the silhouette and frames the body beautifully. I would wear it zipped just enough to suggest structure, letting it act as both armour and statement,” says Oldrini. Whichever way you choose to wear it, just make sure you throw at least one standout accessory into the mix. Gucci’s ‘Jackie Slim’ shoulder bag is detailed with the brand’s ‘GG’ monogram and a piston clasp that nods to its heritage.

With Milan Fashion Week just around the corner, now’s the perfect time to embrace a little glamour. For instant impact, look no further than Khaite’s statuesque ‘Loxley’ maxi skirt in leopard-print pony hair. It makes a statement without feeling over the top, meaning you could wear it to the office and dinner afterwards with a few easy styling tricks. Start with Jil Sander’s lemon-yellow sweater, then add extra pops of color with Tom Ford’s chartreuse satin mules and emerald-encrusted hoop earrings by Anita Ko. Finally, tie everything together with Bottega Veneta’s new ‘Giorno’ bag – the slouchy shape exudes easy elegance and will look impossibly chic tucked under your arm at parties.
