Jil Sander’s SS22 Collection Is The Ultimate Capsule-Closet Inspiration
Known for its timeless and pure aesthetic, JIL SANDER will strike a chord with anyone looking for forever pieces to wear on repeat
In 1967, Jil Sander opened her first store in Hamburg when she was just 24 years old – but it was with the birth of ’90s minimalism that her understated designs really came into their own. Today, under the creative direction of husband-and-wife designers Luke and Lucie Meier, the label continues to display the same contemporary, clean-lined aesthetic that made it famous. The Meiers bring a progressiveness to the house, while maintaining the intelligent design and sense of pureness for which it first became known. Focusing on luxurious fabrics, the brand strikes the perfect balance between referential and modern silhouettes with a timeless sensibility. Strong tailoring, androgynous separates, crisp shirts and cool sweaters are covetable hits every season, designed to be worn and loved for years to come.
“Timelessness and quality are key criteria for those looking to create a capsule closet that will serve them season after season, which is why Jil Sander remains as relevant as ever

Today, with the increasing awareness of fashion’s impact on the planet and the need for responsible consumerism, the emphasis on clothing designed for longevity has come to the fore. Timelessness and quality are key criteria for those looking to create a capsule closet that will serve them season after season, which is why Jil Sander remains as relevant as ever. It is a brand that you can rely on for everything from everyday essentials to special statement pieces, all in the knowledge that these items will transcend trends and look as fresh in five years as they do today.
For SS22, the collection centers around the idea of a new awakening – a universally familiar mood for spring, and one that feels particularly significant in the wake of the past two years. Silhouettes look strong yet feel light in a skillful balance of fabrics, treatments and details. Sharp-shouldered jackets are worn over smooth, fluid pants that softly anchor the silhouette, and delicately draped tops are paired with structured trousers. Meanwhile, design details such as smocking, cording and padding demonstrate the artisanal handcraft that the label is known for. The color palette is also fitting for spring, featuring pale peach, light green, cream and white, as well as dark neutrals that are sure to fit perfectly into your existing wardrobe.
This juxtaposition of strength and softness continues when it comes to the accessories, too. Black-and-white shoes and boots – some embellished with minimal golden discs and brooches – feature sharp, pointed lines to provide a polished finishing touch. Meanwhile, the new ‘SM Cannolo’ bag – which comes in shades of white, deep burgundy, caramel and black – is cylindrical in shape and features a broad, adjustable buckled strap, prioritizing comfort and tactility.
For the SS22 campaign, shot in Paris, the Meiers collaborated with photographer Chris Rhodes on a sequence of images that capture the Jil Sander aesthetic with delicate exactitude. “The most satisfying aspect of these campaign projects is working closely with the authors and our team,” they reveal. “Traveling, improvizing, finding new dimensions in what we do; it is important to see the things you do in the world.”
