A curated roundup of the best new fashion arrivals, hand-picked by our editors
Spring hasn’t quite sprung in London, but nonetheless the PORTER fashion team has a spring in its step, thanks to the arrival of some rather wish-list-worthy pieces on NET-A-PORTER this week. First up, Isabel Marant’s leather-trimmed raffia tote is one of those brilliant, multipurpose pieces that will look just as good beachside as it does in the boardroom. The roomy size means it will fit everything from a rolled-up pool towel to your laptop. If that hasn’t got you longing for a brighter day, Totême’s cool, square-framed tortoiseshell sunglasses certainly will. Subtly nodding to current noughties’ nostalgia, they also have the chic and timeless appeal that the Swedish brand is renowned for.
As for what to wear with these irresistible accessories, Loewe’s linen-blend denim jacket is lightweight enough for balmy days, while its boxy silhouette makes it suitable for layering over chunky knits, too – just add wide-leg jeans and sneakers (such as Chloé’s elevated crochet-effect style). For something more dressed up, Gabriela Hearst’s exquisitely crafted, ankle-skimming skirt is patched together from panels of suede and leather in a blend of rich burgundy, creamy beige and terracotta hues. Pair it with a sweater now – everything from fine knits to fuzzy mohairs are perfect – and a silk blouse once the temperature rises.
Meanwhile, fashion features editor Megan Logue has her eyes on this sunshine-ready cropped T-shirt by Paco Rabanne. “This year, I’ve decided to make a real effort to introduce more color and print into my closet. For a long time I’ve worn black almost exclusively, and while I still think a monochrome look is incredibly chic, I want to embrace the more spirited pieces that lit up the runway this season. As ever, Paco Rabanne’s latest collection combined ’70s nostalgia with fresh cuts and silhouettes. Case in point: the Parisian label’s playful cropped tee. From the midriff detailing to the graphic print, this joyful piece already has me looking forward to summer. I’ll be styling it with my favorite jeans and flatform sandals for off-duty days spent with friends. Come vacation time, I’ll switch in a black slip skirt, lashings of gold and sun-kissed skin.”
When in doubt about how to give your look a cheerful update, a bucket hat is guaranteed to do the trick. Valentino Garavani’s reversible style offers two looks in one, meaning it’s a no-brainer when packing light – and, equally, for those who tend to overpack!
