6 Beauty Updates Your Makeup Bag Needs Right Now
From creamy matte lip hues to the newest skin tint that delivers a radiant filtered effect IRL and the hydrators to know for good skin prep, these latest launches – as chosen by the NET-A-PORTER beauty team – are guaranteed to elevate your day-to-night makeup look…
The filter finish in a stick Charlotte Tilbury Unreal Skin Sheer Glow Tint
If you’re a fan of Charlotte Tilbury’s famous Hollywood Flawless Filter foundation, then you’ll love this new ultra-lightweight foundation stick, too. Infused with hyaluronic acid and vitamin E, it has a hydrating balm-like texture that glides over and melts into skin, creating a filter-like finish similar to what you get from the original cult foundation (the brand’s Optical Blur Technology works wonders here). While the formula is buildable, you won’t get more than sheer-to-light coverage, but you will get an impeccable glow. I apply one sweep straight from the stick to my chin, nose, cheeks and forehead, and then blend it all together with my hands for the most natural effect. Malena Harbers, beauty editor
The ultimate eye revivers Dr. Barbara Sturm Everything Eye Patches
One of the most anticipated launches from Dr. Barbara Sturm, these see-through hydrogel eye patches target, well, everything you’d want to address around the delicate under-eye area. From dark circles, eye bags and puffiness (avocado polyphenols and vegan collagen factor here) to instant brightening and intense hydration (using triple hyaluronic acid and panthenol), these mega-multitaskers are especially good for pre-makeup-application plumping in 15 minutes. Apply the biggest end of the patch underneath the eye for more brightening power, at the outer corners to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, or keep them in the fridge for an extra-cooling, deflating effect. The options are endless. Newby Hands, contributing global beauty director
The matte lip shades to covet Westman Atelier Lip Suede Matte Lipsticks
Like all Westman Atelier products, these matte lipsticks take a standard makeup hero to the next level. Case in point: they glide on like a velvety oil, but there’s no shine or sheen; rather, a surprisingly truly matte finish and saturated color that lasts (Le Rouge, a vibrant red, and Minx, a suits-all warm pink, are particularly pretty). There’s no bleeding, feathering or fading, either (thanks to kaolin clay). Also true to the brand, they’re spiked with skincare-grade ingredients such as peptides, hyaluronic acid and vitamins C and E for a smoother, plumper lip finish. Equally notable? The case is refillable, and the inside of the cap is mirrored for easy on-the-go touch-ups. Divine. MH
The shine-controlling skin finisher Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Pressed Powder
Hourglass founder Carisa Janes wanted the same airbrushed finish and blurring effects as the brand’s Airbrush Concealer in a travel-friendly format – and her new pressed powders have been created with this in mind. Choose from five shades that offer sheer coverage and major shine control without settling into fine lines or delivering a cakey effect. Spot-apply wherever you get excess oil – most often the T-zone – or use a sheer dusting all over to set makeup if you’re prone to shine, especially when temperatures rise. The power-packed hydrator La Mer The Moisturizing Fresh Cream
The backbone of any good makeup look comes from using the right skincare before you apply it. This is where La Mer’s new The Moisturizing Fresh Cream shines. A cocktail of the brand’s signature Miracle Broth, hydrators and lime tea (for antioxidant power) in a light, whipped gel-like texture, it balances skin’s oil levels and blurs pores – perfect for hotter, more humid weather – while making skin even-toned, and super-plump at the same time. It’s a great primer, too, since it really works to fill in lines and wrinkles from the inside out, so that makeup can’t sit in any crevices. Rosie Jameson, senior buyer
The line-smoothing SPF 111Skin Repair Sunscreen SPF50+
Don’t let the sheer, weightless finish of this high-factor sunscreen fool you: it’s heavy on skin protection from UVA and UVB rays, blue light and pollution. As the first dedicated SPF from 111Skin, it’s infused with the brand’s exclusive NAC Y2 complex, together with a special cotton extract to reduce redness, and repair and restore any existing skin damage. There’s also hyaluronic acid in the formula for that plumped-up, smooth-skin finish that’s ideal for applying a skin tint or foundation over (without pilling or any added stickiness,) as well as on bare skin at the beach.
