Rock ’n’ roll done right
Redemption is set to take over your party wardrobe with high-impact, attitude-filled dresses – and it’s doing it sustainably
Right now, sustainability is one of the most-used words in fashion, with every label worth its salt queuing up to shout about its eco credentials. But the brands to look for are those that are ethical from the get-go, and, if you haven’t yet alighted upon a truly sustainable label that’s also undeniably cool, then you clearly haven’t set eyes on Redemption. The label is injecting a serious dose of rock ’n’ roll into the movement, conjuring high-impact, irresistible clothes you’ll want in your closet immediately. This is luxury fashion with all the glamour and drama you could hope for.
The label was founded in 2016 by a trio of Italian friends – Gabriele ‘Bebe’ Moratti (the label’s creative director), Daniele Sirtori and Vanni Laghi – who set out to create a label that combined impeccable style with social change. It was established on the principles of sustainability and strong social ethics, with a disruptive business model that aims to give 50 percent of profits to charitable causes. Redemption has always placed great emphasis on minimizing its environmental footprint, taking the time to source sustainable fabrics and materials and ensuring its clothes are exclusively produced in Italy. For the foreseeable future, then, Redemption is firmly committed to pushing the boundaries of sustainability by using more advanced fabrics and materials, and by collaborating with collectives in developing countries to foster prosperity.

What you really need to know about the label, though, is that it’s set to make after-dark dressing a breeze over the coming months. Redemption’s past collections have riffed on musical influences, and the FW19 collection continues the theme: inspired by a global mood of turbulence and division, Moratti has mined the world of heavy metal, playing with the duality of rebellion and refinement. The result? Statement-making glamour with a defiant edge, all short hemlines, strong shoulders and serious attitude.
If you’re looking for elegant-meets-interesting, wear-forever dresses – and in the run-up to the holiday season, who isn’t? – then these are just the thing: high-shine metallic minis with a 1980s air and long sleeves that keep them on the sophisticated side of sexy. There’s a ruby-red sequinned dress with oversized draped shoulders that wouldn’t look out of place on a rock star – and which is sure to make you feel just as fierce. And a pair of dresses – one tuxedo-inspired and one covered in tiny silver guitars – with dramatic trains that you can swish as you go. And, on the flipside of such powerful femininity, there are neatly tailored velvet jackets for when only louche separates will do. All you need to add is a pair of towering heels or over-the-knee boots, a smoky eye or bright red lip and you’ll be ready to see out the party season – stylishly and sustainably.
