Malone Souliers unveils two new ultra-chic shoe styles
Inspired by old-Hollywood glamour and ’70s icons, the cult shoe label experiments with sleek new silhouettes in playful hues this season
When Malone Souliers stepped elegantly into the fashion industry six years ago, editors, stylists and tastemakers the world over were instantly captivated by the brand’s sculptural silhouettes and luxe satin finishes. With a name that is an amalgamation of founder and creative director Mary Alice Malone’s surname and an old French word that means ‘handmade woman’s shoe’, it espouses the deeply personal with a Parisian sophistication. Meaning these are the kind of shoes that lend a chic finishing touch to any ensemble. “A beautiful heel will sculpt the foot and create a transformative reaction through the entire body,” says Malone – whose background is in furniture design – of her fluid yet faultlessly constructed shoes. “It will affect posture and the way you walk, but also the way you talk, the way you carry your head, your entire bearing.”
Malone frequently revisits her favorite inspirations, including the coquettish beauty of the ’50s and the magnetism of ’70s female icons, favoring empowering muses who are subtly sexy. This season welcomes two exciting new silhouettes: first up is the Marilyn. With a name that instantly conjures enduring beauty and potent femininity, this is a refined statement shoe with timeless style. In a closed-toe mule silhouette, it comes with the brand’s usual hallmarks – from the signature strap detailing to a sculptural shape that complements the arch of the foot – as well as debuting a new curvilinear wedge heel.
The classic round toe evokes the grandeur and grace of the Hollywood Regency era, while the metallic finishes – either in silver or black and gold – call to mind the decadence of ’70s nightlife. “Marilyn reminds me of old-Hollywood glamour,” says Malone. “The sculpted heel I find to be so romantic. The curve of the heel mirrors the lines of the female form, celebrating those curves – it is meant to make you feel beautiful.” And whether paired with a glamorous gown (once black-tie events are back on the agenda) or off-duty denim, it certainly will, as it lends a polished yet playful finish to any ensemble.
Lucia was also unveiled this season – an on-trend square-toe mule in a rich color palette. Available exclusively at NET-A-PORTER, you’ll find it in a bold bubble-gum pink. “She is different, she is super-cool, with a squared-off open toe and very saturated, bright satin colours. She feels like the coolest girl out there,” explains Malone, who also drew on the power of magic to elevate an object beyond its components when designing this collection. “I have always found mules to be so sensual, so effortless to slip on and go. I want women to feel confident, effortless yet playful and unique in the Lucia.” Dial up the drama of low-key looks or offset more ‘extra’ ensembles with a pair of shocking-pink Lucias.

Meticulously crafted in the resplendent Lake Como region of Italy, beauty and design dexterity go hand in hand at Malone Souliers. Malone is as fastidious about construction as she is about aesthetics and will thoughtfully curate each collection with an experimental flair. The heel is cleverly centralised for optimum stability, while comfort comes courtesy of an inner cushion with an ultra-soft lining. Unsurprisingly, stylish stars such as Blake Lively, Beyoncé and Lupita Nyong’o have all been spotted wearing Malone Souliers’ instantly recognizable footwear.
