A bag is for life, not just for a season. And the notion of an investment buy has never rung truer than when referring to the New York brand Savette. Established in 2020 by Amy Zurek, the label was created to offer women practicality and smart refinement at the same time — an everyday bag that can take the modern women from dawn until dusk, from season to season, with absolute ease.

For Zurek (who formerly held positions at The Row and Khaite before launching Savette), a handbag offers freedom: it’s the vessel within which we store our essentials and that allows us to go, unhindered, about our day. That’s why, since the brand’s inception, each Savette bag has been thoughtfully designed to suit our on-the-go lifestyles, with crossbody straps and considered pockets – bags that are neat in silhouette but capacious within. Savette was created to be the bag “you pick up when it’s time to walk out of the door,” says Zurek.

Timelessness is at the core of Savette’s ethos. And Zurek’s designs are therefore the antithesis of a bold It-bag — a welcome reprieve from the noise of seasonality and lust-have buys. Instead, Savette strikes the elusive balance of being distinct enough to leave an impression without ever distracting from a well-curated outfit. Thoughtful details, such as a curved silhouette, a chain strap or contrast stitching, take each minimalist bag and elevate it into an art piece, whether it’s a roomy tote or a miniature satchel.

It’s perhaps only natural that Zurek’s designs mimic sculptures and shapes ordinarily found in architecture: the designer, who grew up in Los Angeles, studied fine art, which unquestionably gave her a unique vantage point with which to view accessories. Art and buildings, too, are designed with ‘forever’ in mind. And very few people would consider changing the artworks that hang upon their walls each season. So why should a bag be considered any differently?

I love the idea of an heirloom. I love when something is so classic that it can be passed on through generations of women and only get better with time. This is a rare design philosophy today. But I hope it resonates with women at a time when they’re reconsidering their priorities when they’re investing in handbags

Since launching the label, Zurek has built the Savette offering slowly — assembling each new collection like an architect might consider a structure, with each new silhouette a purposeful building block for the modern wardrobe. “I love the idea of an heirloom,” says Zurek. “I love when something is so classic that it can be passed on through generations of women and only get better with time. This is a rare design philosophy today. But I hope it resonates with women at a time when they’re reconsidering their priorities when they’re investing in handbags.”

And that notion rings especially true for pre-fall 2023. The brand’s original ‘Tondo’ style — an instant classic —has been reinterpreted into two new silhouettes. A neat pouch, designed to be worn crossbody, is cleverly designed to carry a smartphone, with space for credit cards and a lipstick. So it’s just as ideal for traveling, when you’re at the airport or on the airplane and want to have your essentials at hand, as it is for simply popping out for a coffee during your lunch hour.

Meanwhile, Savette’s signature ‘Tondo’ silhouette has also been transformed into a smart pouch, with strikingly clean curved lines and a delicate chain strap that renders it the perfect dinner companion. And best of all, the chain is removable, meaning the bag can double up as a clutch for more refined, after-dark events.

Savette is renowned for its recognizably refined hardware, which Zurek says is inspired by modernist sculptures. Ever in pursuit of practicality and perfection, each Savette bag features its signature snap-close magnetic lock, which keeps valuables safe and your handbag easily closed – ideal for traveling on busy trains during rush hour.

In homage to timelessness and time-honored tradition, Savette’s bags are handcrafted in Italy using exquisitely soft leathers in wearable, earthy tones. But those looking to add a pop of color to daily outfits will relish in the brand’s new rouge hue, introduced this season for the first time. In a classic red, it will make a sophisticated pairing with navy blazers; for an off-duty take, wear it with stonewashed jeans and a poplin cotton shirt for a preppy, polished look.

From dawn until dusk, work until weekend, a hardworking Savette silhouette is sure to become a forever favorite – you’ll wonder how you ever left the house without one.
