Nothing beats the feeling of sunshine on bare skin in summer, making a strapless top a necessary addition to your warm-weather wardrobe. “I’m very much a tan-first (with SPF!) type of person, so I often consider what I can wear to maximize my vitamin D intake while also keeping tan lines at bay. The answer is anything with barely-there straps or – even better – none at all,” says NET-A-PORTER’s buying editor, Abbi Minchin, who has her eye on Esse Studios’ ‘Illi’ style. Exclusive to NET-A-PORTER, it’s knitted with plenty of stretch for the perfect figure-hugging fit and has a beautiful, streamlined shape that works with jeans, shorts and skirts alike.

“I’ll be wearing mine in the city and by the coast all season long, with a contrasting linen maxi skirt, such as Gabriela Hearst’s finely pleated ‘Chiara’ style, and thong sandals,” says Minchin. “Nothing makes your tan shine brighter than mixed-metal jewelry, so I’ll add some layered cuffs – Khaite’s sculptural ‘Shadow’ style is top of my list – and simple hoop earrings,” she adds. Don’t forget to prep your arms and décolletage with your favorite body oil for a gorgeous summer glow.

Since summer is all about lighter textures, swapping your everyday leather or suede tote for one made from raffia makes perfect sense, especially on vacation. New to NET-A-PORTER, Muuñ’s ‘Colette’ style has been handwoven by Ghanaian artisans and has a drawstring pouch inside to secure your phone, wallet and SPF. Heading to the beach? Remove the lining entirely to make space for a towel and water bottle.

“In recent years, I have become an incredibly savvy packer, and my go-to pieces are always multi-functional styles that can be worn for any occasion – and swimwear is a prime example of this,” continues Minchin. Responsibly crafted in northern Italy and part of our NET SUSTAIN edit, Lido’s ‘Uno’ one-piece has elegant crossover straps that frame the open back, and it can double as a bodysuit – making it a practical choice when space is limited in your suitcase. “I often wear mine away from the pool, with wide-leg pants in the evening; or I’ll throw drawstring linen shorts over the top to head straight to lunch after a swim – Lido’s fine fabric dries super-fast,” Minchin adds. Complement the timeless terracotta shade with Chloé’s crocheted slides, adding Jacques Marie Mage’s square-framed ‘Vito’ sunglasses and a bucket hat for afternoons spent sunbathing.
