How I Curate My Space: Natalia Criado’s Jewel-Like Italian Loft

In our interiors series, we ask designers and tastemakers to open the doors of their favorite rooms, sharing the stories and inspirations behind the style and their most cherished pieces within their space. Below, designer NATALIA CRIADO invites us into her loft apartment near Milan, where she finds the perfect balance of relaxation and creative inspiration. By KATIE BERRINGTON

“It’s the perfect balance of nature and Milan’s energy,” says designer Natalia Criado of her loft apartment, which is located just outside the northern Italian city famed for its fashion, design and cultural credentials. This balance “enriches my creative process”, she adds, and it is a juxtaposition she has woven throughout the interiors, too: “I love the pristine aesthetic. It’s a jewel-like apartment – elegant, feminine and contemporary – while also creating an inviting atmosphere that resonates deeply with me.”

“In this space, I find both relaxation and inspiration,” continues Criado, who is known for her exquisite sculptural – and, incidentally, also jewel-like – glass and tableware. “It’s my sanctuary, a retreat where I can unwind and focus on my creativity.” She is currently transforming part of the living area into a studio space, “which allows me to immerse myself in my work while still enjoying the comforts of home”.

Criado’s homeware captures “the subtle beauty of everyday objects”, she says

“I treat my space like a canvas, often shifting colors and decor to cultivate a new mood, allowing me to express my evolving design sensibilities and craft an atmosphere that resonates with my artistic vision,” she shares. “Introducing a ‘piece of the month’ adds excitement, allowing me to truly appreciate its presence as it merges into the ever-changing setting.”

Some favorite pieces to take center stage in this serene, light-filled loft are a pleated Oscar Piccolo lamp, and a Tobia Scarpa chair in warm wood tones that complement the silver metal accents throughout the apartment. There’s also a piece of her own bespoke design. “One of my most fulfilling achievements is the component marble table I designed, which can be divided into two. This versatility allows me to shift the layout and adapt the space, giving it character over time. I love that it reflects my vision and serves as both a functional piece and also a unique centerpiece.”
