Huda Kattan’s AM/PM routine
How does an Instagram superstar and founder of a best-selling makeup range get ready for the day and wind down at night? HUDA KATTAN shares her – seriously committed – beauty routine
IN THE MORNING
I’m great on routine…
…because I have to be. I’m up by 5.30am; I used to be coming home around then, but I changed [my routine] a year ago and it’s good for getting things done. I go straight into yoga – my coach comes to the house – and I’m in the office by 7am.
My morning glam…
…takes up to two hours. I do it in the office and like to be by myself; I listen to classical music and get lots of ideas – it’s like meditation and research in one. I’ve got more into skincare now and start by splashing my face with water, then I use the Guerlain Orchidée Impériale serum or a rose oil – I love the Anne Semonin Miracle Eye Contour Anti-Wrinkle Cream as it gets my lids tight, it’s amazing. Then it’s my primer, foundation, eyes and finally brows. The makeup is a lot.
My mantra is…
…“I love myself”. I know it sounds cheesy, but it’s important because people don’t say they love each other enough, and it’s really good for our confidence to feel loved.
Once a week…
…I do a vigorous full-body exfoliation. I’m not a spa girl, but I go to the Moroccan baths every now and again. At home, I do a really good body scrub followed by Caudalie Divine Oil, and a gentle peel for my face before using a placenta or snail mask. I’ve done this for a year and my skin is really good. Every Saturday I also shave my face – I always come back to the razors I pick up from Japanese drug stores.
On a bad skin day…
…I use Anne Semonin Ice Cubes – I even have a fridge in my office just so I can use them. If my skin is acting crazy, I chill some chamomile tea, soak a face cloth in it and use that to calm my skin. For breakouts, blue LED and lavender oils are good, but I know skin reacts best to routine – you need to respect it.
IN THE EVENING
I’m big on my skin…
…I double cleanse, then use SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic, a firming lotion, and Ren Rose O1² Moisture Defence Oil. I use the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion if I have a breakout (and I tend to break out a lot).
No one messes with my bath time…
…I love it. I dry brush beforehand with the Shaquda Suvé Body Brush – it’s unbelievably soft. In the bath, I use This Works Deep Sleep Night Oil, then body oil like Jo Malone Dry Body Oil. After I pat dry, I use the Caudalie Divine Oil and Legology Air-Lite Daily Lift for Legs cream – I’m obsessed with it, it’s unreal. My nighttime routine is a little over the top, but I’m fast – it all takes no more than 30 minutes.
My indulgence is…
…shopping on NET-A-PORTER. It’s my weekly thing with my personal shopper when the new stock comes in.
On my bedside table I have…
…so many things, including hand cream, Margaret Dabbs Foot Hygiene Cream, and I always use a silk pillowcase and eye mask.
I’m obsessed with magnesium…
…it helps me fall asleep. I used to lie awake thinking too much, but now I take magnesium supplements and listen to Native American flutes or an audiobook.
My most-asked question is…
…“How do you stay motivated?” I thought I knew how to answer this as being a mom or loving what I do. But I recently wondered, what happens when we reach our goals and are doing well – what motivates us then? Really, it’s down to purpose, and my purpose is inspiring other businesses to open and being a catalyst for change.
