Gabriela Hearst is one of the most powerful forces in the fashion industry today, due to her unwavering commitment to sustainable practices and rethinking how we make and consume clothes. When Hearst became the creative director of Chloé in December 2020, she brought with her the model and learnings that she had refined at her own namesake label. Less than a year later, in October 2021, Chloé became the first luxury fashion house to be awarded a B Corp certification. Every step of production at the French maison is thoughtful and considered, with Hearst creating quality products that are designed to outrun the fickle trend cycle. A trademark of Hearst’s is to reuse materials, and the label’s latest innovation is sunglasses made from a special regenerated acetate.

This season, the eyewear collection includes a new line named Gayia, in which each piece is made entirely from ReAce, a 100% recycled acetate derived from pre-consumer acetate scraps. This material reduces at least 50% of the carbon footprint compared to standard acetate and is in line with the maison’s ethos of participating in the circular economy, reusing materials that already exist wherever possible. The packaging also reflects this way of thinking, as it is made from bonded leather composed of up to 52% recycled materials. Another detail that we love about the Gayia collection is that the limited-edition number is engraved onto each pair of sunglasses on the inside of the temple, symbolizing how unique it is.

Hearst expertly marries her knowledge of sustainability with a truly elegant design sensibility. Her aesthetic is rooted in an appreciation of classic design, and so the sunglasses have a timeless quality that makes them a forever choice. NET-A-PORTER is stocking two styles exclusively – a square frame and a classic wayfarer style, both in a beautiful golden tortoiseshell colorway – that will be part of the NET SUSTAIN edit. The universally flattering designs are guaranteed to add a touch of sophistication to any outfit.

This storied French fashion house has always been loved for its youthful, joyful approach to fashion, and every year it perfectly captures the mood and spirit of the summer season. In the spring/summer ’23 campaign, Gigi Hadid perfectly embodies the carefree and ethereal attitude of the Chloé woman, pictured jumping against blue skies in cream linens and a netted sundress, while in the Chloé Eyewear campaign she wears the oversized square-frame tortoiseshell sunglasses – just when we thought we couldn’t love them anymore.
