Paravel is the luggage world’s answer to a modern, luxury aesthetic, and alongside its iconic hard-shell cases, other chic travel essentials are on offer, too – from packing cubes and zipped cases to slick canvas totes to hit the city or beach with. What’s more, styles arrive in a nuanced palette, with contrasting colors and subtle textures paying heed to the mantra ‘the devil is in the detail’. But beyond sleek design codes and a long-term commitment to sustainability, the brand’s robust pieces really work: lightweight, versatile, and practical, they’re designed by globetrotters for globetrotters.

Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, the joyful ease of being able to hop on a plane again has fueled a desire for elegant, practical luggage solutions – and it’s a conundrum the New York-based travel brand Paravel has been tackling since launching in 2016. Founded by Vogue alumna Indré Rockefeller and Andy Krantz, the house describes itself as “a travel-inspired brand with sustainability at the core.” Committed to crafting luggage we’ll use for years to come, this environmentally-conscious philosophy centers on working with more considered materials and, ultimately, limiting the impact each piece has on the planet. The brand’s latest collection, Aviator100, aims to tackle the issue of single-use plastics and forms part of our NET SUSTAIN edit of consciously crafted designs.

The limited-edition Aviator100 collection arrives in a ‘Glacial Blue’ polycarbonate shell, which is composed entirely of post-consumer recycled water-cooler jugs (nine tons of them, to be precise). The distinctive blue-green color comes from the hue of the jugs, and Paravel is keen to highlight that part of the beauty of the finish lies in the variations created by the recycling process; no two pieces will ever be exactly the same. So how does it work? Water coolers are broken down, cleaned, then made into pellets, which form the raw material that is molded into the suitcase’s robust shell. Each piece comes with a unique batch number, too.

The jewel in the Aviator100 collection is undoubtedly the brand’s cult ‘Carry-On Plus’, which features a compact silhouette that is surprisingly spacious and fits neatly into most aircraft overhead lockers. The luggage is designed to hold “four-to-seven days worth of clothes and two-to-four pairs of shoes,” according to Paravel – making it perfect for a work trip or weekend escape. In terms of technical details, 360-degree, double-spinner wheels ensure a smooth push through departures (vital for a quick dash to the gate when you get caught up in duty free), while a sleek, retractable handle crafted in recycled aluminum delivers a solid grip. Inside, the lightweight design is also engineered for ease and efficiency on the go – think water-resistant lining (also made from recycled jugs), useful interior pockets, plus a clever removable laundry bag. What more could you need? It’s time to hit the runway with luxury luggage that lasts.
