Pernille Teisbaek Shares The Skincare, Hair And Wellness Hacks She Swears By
As a style icon, creative consultant and mother of four, Danish influencer PERNILLE TEISBAEK is well-versed in the art of multitasking. Here, she tells MALENA HARBERS about the essentials for her highly-curated, minimalist skin and makeup routine, her two-minute party hair hack and the one product she never goes without
First thing, every morning…
…my nine-month-old daughter wakes up around 5am, so either my husband or I spend the first hours in the morning playing with her before the rest of the house wakes up. As we have four kids under the age of seven, we don’t have much time in the morning – everyone needs to get dressed, have breakfast and be in school or kindergarten by 8am. And then… coffee!
Most days, my everyday beauty routine is very pared-back
I honestly walk around the house in the same cozy outfits, wearing very minimal make up – if any – quite a lot of the time. But when I do go out – whether it’s to pick up the kids from school, run errands or go out for dinner – I love to style a good outfit. It gives me so much energy to get creative. I think a good mood and good energy can make anyone look so beautiful. Dress your mood and be authentic. That’s my tip for a sustainable, everyday beauty routine.
Hydration and an SPF50 make the biggest difference to how my skin looks and feels
I drink a lot of water, which is really key, and I swear by my daily routines – making sure to cleanse and moisturize both morning and evening. In the morning, I gently massage Bioeffect’s EGF Serum into my skin after cleansing, then I use Augustinus Bader’s The Rich Cream and finish with an SPF50. At night, I clean my face and let the water dry out while cleaning my teeth; then I apply my Bioeffect EGF Serum, as I do during the day.
Having recently turned 40…
…I do facials more frequently, with different massage techniques and lymphatic drainage, to get my circulation going and maintain a healthy glow. I’m really lucky I don’t have to deal with a lot of breakouts, but, if I do experience one, I can’t leave it alone – definitely not the best advice! When my skin is dehydrated, I love using a hydrating mask. My favorite one is from Bioeffect. I also drink a lot more water and make sure to use a face mist every so often – especially when traveling.
I don’t use at-home beauty devices…
…but I do like to have a facial now and again. I love to see Melanie Grant when I’m either in London or in Paris; she’s amazing – and does the best facials.
On a bad face day…
…I do a cold plunge, but for my face only. I haven’t been able to do cold plunges for my whole body yet – it’s too cold! Or, I will make sure to get as much fresh air as possible, which I think really helps with depuffing my face.
I really like to wear minimal makeup
My signature makeup look is the ‘no-makeup makeup’ look.
I try not to wash my hair too often to keep my scalp healthy
I never travel without my favorite body oil
I swear by the one from [Danish beauty brand] Honey, as it hydrates and dries so quickly. Also, if I’m traveling, I always try to adapt to the timezone I’m in as fast as possible. If that means staying awake multiple hours in a row, or the other way around, then so be it. The faster you can adapt your body and mind, the faster you’ll feel better.
I love reformer Pilates
The combination of strength, stretching and mobility is really good. I always feel so energized after a workout.
Balance is key when it comes to my diet
There’s nothing specific I don’t eat. That being said, I try not to have too much refined sugar – but living in a household with four small children, that’s a challenge! I like starting my morning with a coffee and then I usually eat granola with lots of seeds and nuts and whole milk. If not that, I really love eggs. I always take my vitamins, too, which is either a powder or a mix of vitamins C and D and fish oil.
If I have a shoot or big event…
…I would love to do something nice for myself the day before, but the reality is that I rarely have that time. Instead, I make sure to go to bed early, to catch up on a little beauty sleep, which always improves my skin and energy for a long day ahead.
I love a sleek bun as my go-to party-hair look
It gives a fresh and styled look. I use a gel or a wax stick to get that tight shiny look, which only takes a few minutes. It’s great for when I have no time to get ready after tucking in four kids at bedtime.
Being around my family calms and grounds me the most
I also really appreciate my spiritual coach. She is such an amazing person and helps me keep a healthy perspective on things. She guides me a lot in following my intuition, which I think is so important.
My biggest beauty tip is…
SPF50, SPF50, SPF50! I can’t say it enough. I use mine all year round.
