How To Wear Boho Like A Fashion Insider This Fall
Loosen a hem, add a ruffle and layer a voluminous blouse – the new boho is all about doing it your way, says GEORGIE LUCAS
Full skirts, lace trims, artisanal craftsmanship and a nomadic spirit – boho is back. Chloé’s creative director Chemena Kamali kick-started the shift with her debut fall/winter ’24 collection. The runway show was full of diaphanous fabrics, ruffled hemlines and undone details – a breath of fresh, free-spirited air following an era of quiet luxury’s pared-back, understated aesthetic. Flared cuffs, fringing and talismanic details adorned everything from blouses to suede jackets.
It’s worth noting that this season’s take on boho is more put together than previous outings. Perhaps because those of us who embraced the early ’00s version are two decades older, and therefore a little more grown up (at least when it comes to getting dressed). This means investing in a piece or two – a perfectly-cut suede jacket, versatile lace blouse, or printed maxi skirt – to mix and match with your existing closet, rather than going all in on a complete closet overhaul. This time around, the trend feels more closely attuned to an attitude, with an emphasis on more sustainable fabrics, time-honored craftmanship and longevity. Sienna Miller, incidentally, has become a permanent fixture on the Chloé front row – the ’00s boho muse has stamped her seal of approval on the new iteration.

It makes sense, then, to head to Chloé as your first port of call. The revival of the ‘Paddington’ bag two decades after its launch is a fitting place to start. These days it’s crafted using lower impact materials and is part of our NET SUSTAIN edit of more consciously crafted pieces. The aptly named Alix of Bohemia is another brand making waves with ruffled blouses, flared pants and embellished vests that are inspired by vintage fabrics and the perfect building blocks for boho’s ethereal mood.

If you are are drawn to a frilled collar but perhaps aren’t brave enough to go head-to-toe boho, denim is a key tenet of this season’s mood. Chloé’s jeans are another NET SUSTAIN highlight and come in organic cotton cut to a flared silhouette that lends an authentic ’70s feel. Jeans, or an A-line denim skirt like Veronica Beard’s will ground your look, then simply add a voluminous blouse – look to Nili Lotan, Zimmermann, Etro and Valentino Garavani for the chicest styles. It’s the perfect layering piece for when the weather turns colder, too.

At its core, carefree dressing has always been about an individual approach, rather than following a set code or uniform. Accessories are the perfect way to flex your personal style. Opt for an ornate belt buckle and seek out unique gold jewelry, tassels or charms. If you’re looking for a subtle way to embrace the look, a scarf is 2025’s ultimate accessory. Something like Isabel Marant’s tasseled design – belted around your waist like a pareo, looped as a neckerchief or tied around your head – offers plenty of styling potential, from low-key to full-blown bohemian dreams.
