There’s a lot to be said for a capsule wardrobe of luxe, versatile pieces. This week, the PORTER fashion team has been trading styling tips to maximise the potential of our new-season investments. A sleek, slate-grey blazer by brand-of-the-moment Bottega Veneta is a no-brainer – it works with everything from leather Bermuda shorts to floaty midi skirts. Sometimes just switching up your shoes can totally transform an outfit, and this season the coolest way to wear suiting is with knee-high boots. Try the blazer with tailored pants tucked in to ’60s-inspired boots, such as these suede numbers from By Far.

The simplest pieces can often have the most powerful styling potential, and the humble cardigan has become a new-season must-have. Wear this rust-colored Khaite cardi with straight-leg jeans, loafers and a leather waist belt for a smart-casual weekend look, or dress it up with Peter Do’s pleated wide-leg pants for more formal occasions.

As for the most hardworking finishing touches, The Row’s color-blocked Bare sandals in red, blue, white and tan will offset numerous palettes, while Valentino’s vermillion shoulder bag adds a joyful pop of color to any outfit.
